Benin’s parliament is expected table a draft constitutional reform in days to come sources privy to the information have hinted.
The new text according to authorities of the country, will correct the shortcomings of the present constitution.
The draft constitution proposes among other changes putting in place a single 6 -year presidential term.
Benin’s president Patrice Talon says this will ensure frequent change at the helm of the state and guarantee peace and security.
The proposal has been lauded by critics -coming from Africa where heads of state are instead interested in looking for ways to stay in power.
However, it has created division within the political class as some Beninese are still to have access to the text.
An opposition movement has already planned a sit-in this Thursday in the capital to request the publication of the draft constitutional reform.
